Starting today, there is a sign-up sheet for tutors for
the ASSIST program. The sheet is posted by the door of room 3.120. Please
sign up for a shift in advance of when you plan to come in (3 tutors per
day).
Election results are in for your Student Senate Senators! The winners for
the incoming Sophomores are Maycie McGowen, Will Willoughby, and Kayla
Gercak. The winners for the incoming Juniors are Evan Williams, Jack Block,
and Stephen Pepps. And the winners for the incoming Seniors are Hannah
Smith, Paige Holcomb, and David Schufelt. If you are interested in being a
Senator for 2012-13, please get an application form from the Counseling
office or Room 2.126. There will be 3 Senators appointed for each class
(current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors). Applications are due by Friday,
May 18th to Mr. Searing.
SENIORS: If you are pursuing a career in the legal field, please check the
counseling office for a scholarship opportunity. Deadline is May 31, 2012.
The Kalamazoo County Bar Association, in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of
America is pleased to announce the re-establishment of the Kalamazoo County
Legal Explorers Post. Our next presentation will be Wednesday, May 23 in
the courtroom of and with Judge Giguere at 4pm. Meet at the Michigan Avenue
courthouse entrance at 3:45. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Dixon
in room 2.132 for more details and how to RSVP by Mon. May 21 to attend this
last event of the school year.

Give blood at Portage Northern’s last blood drive of the year on Wednesday,
May 23 from 8:00 am- 1:00 pm in the Northern community rooms. If you'd like
to sign up for an appointment time to donate, see Ms. Connaughty in the
guidance office. It takes just a little of your time to give someone else
the gift of a lifetime. In addition to saving lives, Portage Northern's
grad bash will receive $10.00 per attempted donation. Come to support grad
bash and save a life as well! Parents, students, faculty and staff all

Seniors, if you have any outstanding student fines, they MUST be paid before
May 25th, if you plan to walk in the graduation ceremony.
ALL NHS Members! There is a MANDATORY meeting on the 14th after or before
school; we will keep track of who attends. We will discuss the after school
party, due dates, and any confusions. Make sure you attend. Meeting will be
in the Learning Commons.
Seniors - Did you miss the chance to sign up for grad bash? There's still
time! See Mrs. Augustine in the 3rd floor office to sign up for "Oh, the
Places You'll Go!” this year's all-night, fun-filled event following
graduation for the Class of 2012. Be sure to bring your signed waiver form
and ticket money. Don't miss out on the fun!
ATHLETICS
Wednesday afternoon Eugene Ro and
Matt Slack lead the Huskie golf team with 45 and 46 at their home SMAC match
at the Moors, followed by freshmen Matt Stanley and Kevin Werme 46 and 47.
Attn Varsity Track Kids and staff: Today's track release times vary. 1:15
Field Event Kids, 2:15 Sprinters in the (100, 200 and hurdlers), 2:30 the
3200 relays teams and All other distance kids will leave after school. If
you are not on the early dismissal list for today and you choose to leave
early, you will receive an unexcused absence. A copy of the early dismissal
list is in the athletic office. JV KIDS, we'll see you tomorrow at 8:30
am!!!
The football team will be having a Car Wash in front of Dashworks on
Westnedge Saturday. Come between 9 am and 1 pm and have your car washed by
your favorite player. Players that need to sign up for a shift need to see
Coach Scherm today.
On Tuesday May 15th, 6:30pm at the Portage Northern High School Commons
area there will be a boys and girls soccer pre-season meeting for all future
and current Portage Northern Soccer Players. All interested 8th grade boys
and girls soccer players, along with their parents, are welcome to attend.
The Women's Soccer team is having a car wash and can drive on Saturday May
19th from 10a-2p. Bring your dirty cars and returnable cans and bottles to
the PCEC front parking lot to help support the Women's Soccer team.
Come out and support the First Annual Alumni Baseball game this Saturday, as
former baseball players will be taking on the current Varsity team at 3:00
PM on the Huskies field.
