Huskies – send your valentine a sweet note in the
school’s newspaper. At lunch, find the Northern Light table and fill out a
form and spread some love.
The Portage Northern Gay/Straight alliance will meet this Thursday, February
9 in room 3.121 from 3:00 to 4:00. This group is open to anyone and we
welcome newcomers at every meeting. Come support diversity at our school and
have a few snacks!
Attention all writers and artists! The 2012 Portage Northern Literary
Magazine is calling for your original work. Submit up to 3 poems and any
fiction or nonfiction up to 2000 words long. We are also seeking submissions
of original drawings, paintings, and photos. Just put your name on the back
of your work and put it in the basket in your English classroom. Don’t miss
out – the deadline is March 8. See Ms. Nott in room 3.121 if you have
questions.
Huskies Against Hunger will be meeting this Wednesday after school in Mrs.
VanEenenaam’s room. Final t-shirt orders will be due for $15. Profits will
be donated to UNICEF. Snacks will be provided at the meeting.
Need Volunteer Hours? The 2012 Gilmore Festival’s project called "Play. Out.
Loud." Involves collecting donated pianos and painting them bright colors
and then placing them around the community for people to stop and play. They
are looking for volunteers to help with preparing the pianos for painting.
The first work day is May 11 at the Park Trade Center downtown. Shifts are
9:00-12:00 and then 12:00 - 3:00pm. Volunteers can work either or both
shifts. We will have pizza and pop for hungry workers. Contact Pricilla at

Attention IB Diploma Candidate Juniors! We will be having a SUPER important
meeting in Mr. Searing's room on Feb. 8th afterschool. We will start
talking about your Extended Essay for next year - and Ms. Nott will update
you on CAS. Please make sure to be there!
Science Olympiad Team Members see you Wednesday for the meeting.
SENIORS: The deadline for the Portage Education Foundation scholarships is
February 17. Please check out these scholarships in the counseling office,
or search the internet for Portage Education Foundation scholarships.
If you’re looking to make some money this summer, the City of Portage may
have a position for you in their Parks and Recreation Dept. Check out the
poster on the Counseling Office window for contact information.
The holocaust drama – And A Child Shall Lead continues this weekend
following 2 sold out performances last weekend. Tickets can be purchased
online at pndrama.org or at the door an hour before show time. Prices are
$12 for adults and $10 for students. Seating will be limited and will be on
the stage providing the audience with a very intimate experience. Show dates
are February 10, 11, & 12. Be sure to catch this outstanding drama
production!

Boy's Lacrosse is still taking registrations through
Monday, February 13. If you are interested in playing please call or email

Attention students interested in joining the Men's and
Women's Track & Field Teams this spring. Sign-ups have begun. The sign-ups
are electronic this year and all you need to do is go to Coach Kaylor's
Eboard (on the North Middle School page) to find and complete it. The season
begins in 6 weeks, but NOW is the time to get fit. Conditioning takes place
after school in the Doghouse effective immediately!!!
All power lifting team members that plan on attending
the Traverse City Meet this Saturday please meet in the weight room at 3:05
p.m. today (Monday February 6, 2012) If you are not going to the meet, still
meet in the weight room for a normal Monday workout.
Congratulations to Jacob Heaps and Nolan Thomas for taking 2nd place in the
Conference meet on Saturday. Good luck to all the wrestlers as they head to
Individual Districts on Thursday and Team Districts on Saturday.
The 8th annual Portage Lacrosse Pizza Fest Fundraiser will be held on
Saturday, February 25th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Portage Central
Middle School gym. This event features all the pizza you can eat from about
10 different area pizzerias and the opportunity to vote for your favorite
pizzas. Proceeds benefit the Northern & Central Women’s Lacrosse Teams as
well as Portage Central High School Men’s Lacrosse Teams, and the Portage
Middle School Girls’ Lacrosse teams, none of which receive school district
funding. Tickets are $8.00 (free for children age 5 and under) and may be
purchased from any of the team members or at the door on the day of the
event.
