DAC Provides Critical Community Links,
Organized to Assist with Bond Roll-Out
Nov. 26, 2007: The District Advisory Council -- consisting of parent, community, faculty and staff representatives -- meets monthly throughout the school year providing a critical link between Portage Schools and the community.
During the 2005-2006 school year, the DAC had a task force studying school boundary issues and facility needs. DAC will be heavily involved in the roll-out of the new bond projects.
The DAC consists of one parent and one staff representative from each of the District’s 13 schools, as well as community-at-large representatives, administrators, and one representative from both the Portage Education Association and the Board of Education.
DAC members provide two-way communications by bringing grass-roots concerns or questions to the group, and by taking information back to their schools or organizations within the District.
The Council, which often serves the role as a focus group or think-tank for the District, serves in an advisory capacity to the superintendent. During the 2005-2006 school year, the DAC had a task force studying school boundary issues and facility needs.
The DAC meets the third week of each month. For more information about the DAC or for information about membership, visit www.portageps.org (see “Community” link, and then “Organizations”) or contact Ms. Edna Kent at 323-5148. Members of a school community should feel free to contact their DAC representative.
