Middle Schools: Profiles in Good Taste
Profiles in Good Taste is available in the Middle Schools. The program, designed by Chartwells, is an integral part of what makes Portage Public Schools Lunch Program so unique. There are a variety of different stations within our cafeteria that students can choose from each day, meaning there is bound to be an entree for even the pickiest eaters! Here is a brief description of each station and what items are offered at each one.
Origins: Origins is where you can find entrees such as casseroles, comfort foods, food bars and daily menu offerings. Examples include Lasagna, Chinese Bars, Breakfast Bars, Burger Bars, and Macaroni & Cheese. This stop is where you will find the more typical school lunch items.
The Trattoria: We make our own pizza fresh daily and feature these home made pies at the Trattoria. We offer Cheese, and Pepperoni daily. We also feature a daily rotating specialty pizza such as BBQ Chicken, Taco and Hawaiian Pizza. In addition we also make homemade calzones, Bosco cheese filled breadsticks, and stromboli at this station
The Fresh Grill: This is the stop where you will find Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Chicken Patty Sandwiches, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and Veggie Burgers on Whole Grain Buns. Other featured items include Specialty Sandwiches, Chicken Nuggets and Tenders.
Sandwich Central: This station is where students can get a fresh sub sandwich or wrap made right before their eyes. The students select the type of bread, meat and cheese they would like as the base of their sandwich. They then choose between a variety of fresh toppings and condiments to create a unique sandwich all their own.
Outtakes: It’s simply what the name says . . . Prepackaged salads, sandwiches, burritos, fresh cut fruit cups, veggie trays w/dip, and yogurt parfaits already made so you can grab it and go quickly.
High Schools: Environments
What’s new? The Food, The Look and The Lingo!
The Environments experience is designed to provide students with the ability to customize their food choices with new sophisticated flavors and an emphasis on healthier items. We do this by using fresher ingredients, more herbs and spices and preparing food from scratch, just like at home! Students will see more whole grains, more local seasonal produce, reduced sodium meals and skim milk.
The Look: an open and welcoming design with a sophisticated, dynamic atmosphere.
The Lingo: New serving station concepts and menus!
Play Bowls – If it can be served in a bowl, it belongs here! Featured items can include pasta bowls, Chinese / Asian bowls, mashed potato bowls.
Casa Amigo’s – Latin meals with a twist that rotate daily. Featured entrees could include tacos, fajita’s, burritos, and enchiladas.
Grab A Stack – Combo’s rule here! Anything grilled with an emphasis on combo meals for increased nutrition. Meals could include burgers, chicken sandwiches, wraps, and other specialty sandwiches.
Crust & Stuff – Anything in or on a crust. This is where you will find pizza, Stromboli, quiche and calzones.
Ready Set Deli - Sandwiches and salads prepared to order with a fresh colorful variety of vegetables, lean deli meats, reduced fat cheeses and whole grain breads.
Toast Post – Sandwiches and Panini combinations toasted in your very own Turbo Chef oven!
Outtakes – Grab and Go Meals with a focus on energy and fast service. Packaged hot and cold meals along with healthy snacks are found in this area.
Extra Extra – A bounty of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables with composed side dishes to round out your meal!
