Profiles in Good Taste
Profiles in Good Taste is available in the Secondary Schools. The program, designed by Chartwells, is an integral part of what makes Portage Public Schools Lunch Program so unique. There are a variety of different stations within our cafeteria that students can choose from each day, meaning there is bound to be an entree for even the pickiest eaters! Here is a brief description of each station and what items are offered at each one.
Origins: Origins is where you can find entrees such as casseroles, comfort foods, food bars and daily menu offerings. Examples include Lasagna, Chinese Bars, Breakfast Bars, Burger Bars, and Macaroni & Cheese. This stop is where you will find the more typical school lunch items.
The Trattoria: We make our own pizza fresh daily and feature these home made pies at the Trattoria. We offer Cheese and Pepperoni daily. Occasionally we feature specialty pizzas such as BBQ Chicken, Taco and Hawaiian Pizza. In addition we also make homemade calzones, Bosco cheese filled breadsticks, and stromboli at this station.
The Fresh Grill: This is the stop where you will find Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Chicken Patty Sandwiches, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and Veggie Burgers. Other featured items include Specialty Sandwiches, Chicken Nuggets/Tenders and ala carte French Fries.
Sandwich Central: This station is where students can get a fresh sub sandwich or wrap made right before their eyes. The students select the type of bread, meat and cheese they would like as the base of their sandwich. They then choose between a variety of fresh toppings and condiments to create a unique sandwich all their own.
Outtakes: It’s simply what the name says . . . Prepackaged salads, hot and cold sandwiches, fresh cut fruit cups, veggie trays w/dip, and yogurt parfaits already made so you can grab it and go quickly.
Balanced Choice Meals: Are complete meals that meet precise nutrition parameters which endorse healthy eating guidelines and appropriate portion sizes. Our Balanced Choice meals program has won the National Restaurant Association’s 2007 Menu Masters Award for its Healthful Innovations category.
