- The school, which opened in time for the
2009-2010 school-year, is identical to
the new Lake Center Elementary.
- Check out the 12th Street
website.
- This $14.8 million school (which
includes $1.4 million in technology) is a two-story,
72,900 square feet school, with a capacity of
600 students.
- The school was designed to meet or
exceed current 'green,' or sustainable design, standards
for energy-efficiency, occupant comfort and air-quality.
Materials used were selected for recycled content, future
recyclability, low volatile-organic-compound, durability
and ease of maintenance.
- The new school was
completed in time for the 2010-2011 school year. The
overall design is the same as 12th Street Elementary.
The new school was built
behind the old Lake Center Elementary
(which was our oldest
school, dating from 1927).
- See a
current picture
of the new school.
- Central held a
sock-hop on April 16, 2011, as a formal farewell to the old
school for alumni. Among the guests was retired
Superintendent Varl Wilkinson.
- See conceptual drawings from the
west and the north,
and the site plan..
Construction is ongoing behind the school. The new school
will be completed in time for fall 2011.
- This is three-story construction. See a
current picture of
the project.
Mustang Drive is the new entrance to the new student
parking lot off Centre Avenue, and was ready in time for
Sept. 7, the first day of classes. Students will no longer
be parking in the McCamley lot off Westnedge.
- Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on
May 22, featuring retired PPS superintendent Varl
Wilkinson, who was superintendent when Central High was
built in 1949.

- Some classes, impacted by the
construction, are being held at the old Waylee.

- This project is both new construction and
renovation. The Media Center has been renovated, a new
Science Wing has been completed, and the
Commons was finished for the new school year, built
between the main part of the school and the Igloo.
- See pictures of the
inside
and
outside
of the Student Commons. On September
20, there was a public dedication and Open House featuring
tours and refreshments with a dedication ceremony.
