School
Improvement Goals
SMART Goal Reading:
All students in grades Kindergarten - Fifth Grade will increase in reading
rate as measured by Dibel assessments and instructional reading level as
measured by STAR assessments. Grade level measures will indicate 5%
increase.
Curriculum -
Our curriculum is based on district benchmarks that are directly aligned
with state and national expectations for student learning. Our primary
instructional support is the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program.
Assessments are given at the end of each Unit for a total of six
assessments. Teachers record the data either in the computerized grade
book or on a student by student informational sheet which is given to the
Reading Consultants at each building. The Reading Consultants compile
the data and share their analysis with teachers and administrator.
During this school year, building and district data is made available
through the District Data Analyzer software. Available district and
building data is accessible in a timely fashion.
SMART Goal
Writing: All students in grades First - Fifth Grade will
increase their sequential writing skills using writing prompts.
Writing measures will be taken three times throughout the school year to
collect data on student sequential thinking, comprehension, and writing
fluency. Grade level measures will indicate 5% increase in correct
word sequences and total words written.
Curriculum Based
Measurements in Writing: All teachers were trained in
Curriculum Based Writing Measures in the winter of 2006. Staff
discussed how to score writing prompts, scoring total words written and
correct word sequences. Total words written are counted, as long as
the scorer can decipher the word. Correct word sequences include
capitalization and punctuation, correct use of transition words, and if
words in sentences make sense in relationship to the sentence
structure. Correct word sequences are expecteed to increase by twelve
words per school year. Total words written are expected to increase by
ten words per year.
SMART Goal
Mathematics: Students will increase mathematics skills
as measured by District Benchmark Assessments and the MEAP. Grade
level measures will indicate 5% increase.
Instructional Strategies and Professional Development: Scott
Foresman Mathematics curriculum is currently being used. Teacher
resources are extensive. School imporovement activities include
sharing how to pace lession presentations. Most grade levels are at
leaset one unit behind the scope and sequence suggestions. Staff is
working this year to determine how to chunk lessons together, which lessons
to spend the most time on, which lessons to leave until the end of the
semester to provide exposure to concepts but not mastery, and how to provide
appropriate instruction to varied learners. District Grade Level staff
meetings discussed pacing of mathematic lessons. Resources are
plentiful and include instructional strategies for benchmark students,
extensions for accelerated students, and corrective lessons for remediation.
School Wide
Positive Behavior Support: All students will know
and be expected to use CREW Behavior Expectations in all area of Angling
Raod. Using SWIS data, student behavior data will be tracked with
reading achievement data to show how positive behavior support affects
student achievement. Parents/guardians will be aware of positive
student behavior and CREW home/school communications will be implemented.
Major infractions in school behavior codes will decrease by 25% using SWIS
data. Dibel data will indicate 5% increase in reading fluency.
School Wide Positive
Behavior Support Goal - Caring, Responsible, Excellent Attitude, Working
Together
Through the Michigan Behavior and Learning Support Initiative
(Millis) a CREW Leadership Team was developed. We spent the
first year developing and implementing behavior expectations for all common
student areas of the building, including hallway, assembly, cafeteria,
playground, indoor recess, boys/girls bathrooms, and classroom. CREW
cards are given students from any teacher to compliment the behavior CREW
expects. CREW celebrations are conducted monthly to acknowledge
outstanding CREW bahavior. Student pictures are taken and posted,
lunch treats are given out for four outstanding class CREW kids, CREW cards
are collected from each classroom for all school ccelebrations, and CREW
News is published and applauded. This is a three year grant program.
We are making small changes for the 2010-2011 school years to include more
parent communication about CREW expectation and celebrations. CREW
Behavior Expectations have been included in Angling Road's Newsletter.
The principal did parent training sessions through the Parent Teacher
Organization.
