Physical Education Highlights

3rd Grade Phys Ed Quarterly Report

November 2003

Dear 3rd Grade Parents,

The following concepts have been covered with your child in physical education class during the first marking period:

• Aerobic fitness—being able to run or play for a long time without stopping. Thus far, we’ve attempted to fast walk or jog non-stop for six minutes. Students are encouraged to use the talk test or pacing chart to find the correct speed for them to move.

• Flexibility concepts—students have reviewed the wall stretch, quad stretch, and the sit and lean stretch

• Various activities to promote muscular strength and endurance

• Instep kick—using proper form to kick a stationary ball with the instep (where the laces are) and hitting a goal approximately 35 feet away. Students also practiced dribbling and kicking at a goal.

• Foot dribbling using the inside, outside, and instep of the foot while moving in various directions. Students also attempted to maintain control while being defended.

• Football related concepts, with an emphasis on throwing and catching skills. These skills were then incorporated into activities that involved offensive and defensive strategies. Students were also introduced to punting.

• Various locomotor movements including walking, galloping, skipping, hopping on one foot, jumping on two feet, leaping, sliding, and running

• Showing self-control by making good decisions, even if they are excited or angry

If you have any questions, please contact me here at school.

Sincerely,

Mike Getsinger Physical Education Specialist
