Annual Ice Cream Social With the end of the school year came celebration at Amberly Elementary School’s Annual Ice Cream Social. Amberly families were served ice cream and cookies in thanks for all they do to support students and staff. Retiring first grade teachers, Sally Varnell and Lynn Clinard were also honored for their over 58 years of service to students in the Portage Public Schools. The Ice Cream Social is sponsored by the Amberly Student Council.
Girls on the Run
Over 60 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls representing Amberly Elementary School ran in the Greater Kalamazoo Girls on the Run WonderGirl 5K race that took them from Western Michigan University Waldo Stadium through the city of Kalamazoo on Thursday, May 23rd. The weather was perfect for the run and all of the girls completed the race doing their personal best and with a sense of greater self-esteem and accomplishment! The run caps a 10-week training program involving physical activity and coaching to boost self-esteem.
