Curriculum

Accreditation

Amberly Elementary has summary accreditation by the State of Michigan and Outcomes Endorsement from the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. Through the accreditation process all standards have been met with no program deviations. The core curriculum at Amberly provides learning experiences in English language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health, arts education, physical education, and technology. The K-12 curricular and instructional programs for the Portage Public Schools are developed on a District-wide basis by K-12 Curriculum Development Teams and are implemented and sequenced within the building to ensure both the horizontal and vertical cross-district alignment of curriculum and instruction.

Reading/Math

The Houghton-Mifflin Legacy of Literacy basal series along with children's literature and non-fiction pieces comprise our reading program. The University of Chicago Everyday Math Program is used for math instruction in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Instructional Techniques

Teachers use a variety of instructional techniques such as: manipulatives, team teaching, thematic-integrated instruction, cooperative learning and process writing in order to provide our students with an exemplary educational program.
