Safety Patrol

Requirements to Be a Safety

The Amberly Safety patrol is made up of deserving 5th graders who have filled out an application form, as well as signed (along with their parents), a contract stating that they will uphold the rules of Amberly Elementary, be role models for their peers, and maintain at least a "C" average in the classroom while completing and handing in ALL their schoolwork. Being a safety requires a lot of involvement by the kids!

Schedule

The morning and afternoon safeties are required to be at school each morning by 8:20, so they can be at their posts by 8:25. They come in when the 8:43 bell rings. They also are on duty in the afternoon. They leave their classrooms at 3:37, so they can be on duty by 3:42. They are done when the buses leave, usually by 3:50. I have a group who go down earlier, at 3:20, to help with the young 5's. For the other safeties, there are 2 squads that do 2 months at a time, and then the other squad takes its turn. There are about 40 safeties in those 2 squads.

Kindergarten Safeties

We also have a group of safeties who work as kindergarten safeties. They are at their posts every day at 12:30, until about 12:45. The kindergarten safeties change on a monthly basis, and there are 4 different squads for that. There is a total of 30 kindergarten safeties.
