TITLE I SCHOOL PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
Central Elementary intends to follow the parental policy guidelines in accordance with No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 as listed below. This policy will be distributed to parents at the annual fall meeting and will be updated following the completion of the annual spring parent survey.

Policy Guidelines
  • Convene an annual fall meeting and include the following information:
    • Explanation of the criteria used in student selection
    • Description of intervention programs that will be used in Central Elementary’s Title I program
    • Explanation of the differing levels of parent involvement opportunities throughout the year
    • Training for parents on how to use Central Elementary’s Parent Involvement Library and the One Minute Reader Program. Offer a flexible schedule of meetings (e.g. designated evenings and afternoons and evenings during parent-teacher conferences)
  • Include a School-Parent Compact (attached) which is a written agreement stating the specific expectations for the child, parent, teacher, and principal. The purpose of the compact is to increase student achievement by working together.
  • Furnish parents with on going communication throughout the year (keeping in mind that information sent home is in a language that parents can understand). To keep parents best informed, the following information will be sent home:
    • Entrance letters indicating their child’s score and proficiency levels for fall, winter, and spring (example attached)
    • Progress monitoring graphs providing feedback regarding intervention program
    • Winter Progress Reports indicating proficiency levels for winter and spring (example attached)
    • Spring Progress Reports indicating proficiency levels for spring (example attached)
    • Provide parents with the phone number and email address of the Title I program facilitator in the building to promote open lines of communication
  • Provide parents the opportunities for decision making related to the education of their child
    • Invite parents to attend TEAM meetings regarding their child. These brainstorming meetings include school staff members such as the principal, classroom teacher, intervention teacher, reading specialist, school psychologist, special education teacher, school counselor
    • Involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way to plan, review and improve programs. Respond to any parent suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
      • Provide feedback forms in Parent Involvement Library packs
      • Provide parent communication folders in Read Well Program
      • End of the year Annual Spring Parent Survey
  • Offer differing levels of parent involvement opportunities throughout the year
    • Central Elementary has a Parent Involvement Library with resources a parent may sign out to use at home with their child
    • Encourage parents to check out the One Minute Reader (OMR) Program packs. Offer a flexible schedule for OMR trainings such as a fall meeting and spring parent- teacher conferences during the school day and during the evenings.
  • Educate school staff on Title I intervention programs and how to build ties between home and school
  • Obtain outside help from community-based organizations (e.g. recommend Kids Hope mentors when a child seems to need some extra support)
