Location and History
Moorsbridge Elementary, a Site-Based Decision Making Team school, is one of eight elementary schools in the Portage School District, located at 7361 Moorsbridge Road. Opened in 1994, it serves approximately 518 students. Our school provides educational instruction for children from Young 5’s through fifth grade. Moorsbridge is a feeder school to North, West, and Central Middle schools for sixth through eighth grade and Portage Central High School and Portage Northern High Schools for ninth through twelfth grades.
In 1998 two classrooms were added. Moorsbridge has 34 K-5 classrooms. There are also dedicated music, art and reading classrooms, two resource support classrooms, a media center, a 30-station computer lab, a multipurpose/cafeteria room with a stage, and a large gym.
Moorsbridge Elementary is a Western Michigan University Intern Cluster site. We are also a Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra/Gilmore Partner School. Our partnership with Southridge Reformed Church provides our Kid's Hope volunteers. Several teachers are trained in Aesthetic Education.
Population-Students
Moorsbridge has a current enrollment of 518 K-5 students. There are 250 boys and 268 girls. Class sizes range from 20 to 29.

Parent Involvement
Moorsbridge Elementary continues to enjoy a supportive parent population. There are 430 families in the school. Parents participate in the following activities:
First Day of School Coffee: PTO Sponsors a coffee for parents on the first day of school. This is an opportunity for parents to hear how the PTO helps the school and to sign up to work on committees.
September Open House: Open House is an opportunity for families to come and visit their children's classroom. Grade level session are scheduled so teachers can talk about their curriculum, classroom management, school and classroom goals, schedules and special events. PTO refreshments.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent-teacher conferences are held in the fall and spring. Goals and action plans are set for students with teacher and parent input. Parents receive report cards quarterly.
Classroom Volunteers: Parents, Grandparents and other volunteers aid the teachers with both organization and education tasks with the students.
Media Center Volunteers/Accelerated Reader: Several volunteers help in the Media Center by shelving books, helping students find and check out books, create centers, and support Accelerated Reader and computer instruction.
PTO Officers and Committees: Moorsbridge Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization meets monthly. There are committees that help to support the students and staff in a variety of ways. The PTO funds building assemblies and field trips to enrich student experiences, as well as purchasing building and classroom enhancements.
