Student Leadership

The school beautification class is held 4th hour by Mrs. Ramsdell and the Student Leadership class is held after school with Mrs. Ramsdell and Mrs. Ha. The classes work together and participate in a wide variety of projects that make the school a better place. They do fundraisers for school events, decorations for the hallway, and most recently they hosted a food and clothing drive for the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.

Teenage Parenting

The teenage parenting class is taught during 1st hour by Mrs. Ramsdell. Current and expecting teenage parents attend the class to learn valuable parenting skills and get networked with community resources. The students also take field trips and have the opportunity to spend part of first hour having breakfast with their children in the daycare.

SOCC

The SOCC program is our in-school daycare. Headed by Shiela Town, the daycare services 15 children ranging from birth-five years old in age. They learn, play, and exercise while their parents take advantage of a much-needed second chance at an education.

Spitfire News

The Spitfire is the student newspaper produced by Mrs. Thorpe's 1st hour Journalism class.  The Spitfire is a Michigan Scholastic Press Association publication and competes in the spring conference. In 2010, the journalism staff took home a Silver award in their first year of website competition and a Gold award in their second year of newspaper competition. The staff members also participate in the MIPA Fall Conference, where they take classes to learn how to create a cutting-edge newspaper. The journalism class also gives back to the community by pairing with the Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce for their Candy Cane Hunt in Bronson Park.
