IB Exams – May 2010 Session                IB Exam Registration Form             IB Exam Calendar -- May 2010

Registration for the May 2010 International Baccalaureate Diploma examinations is beginning, with a final registration deadline of Friday, November 6, 2009. IB exam fees are shared between the school and the home. Students’ share of the cost is $92 per exam, payable at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to Portage Northern IB. Students who qualify and file paperwork under the Free and Reduced Lunch program will receive assistance with IB exam fees by speaking with the IB Coordinator.

NOTE: Candidates should be aware of the following expectations and restrictions in the district's IB testing policy, which has the full support of the administration:

Students who register for the IB examinations are expected to sit for them and to adhere to all IB examination regulations. Registered candidates who do not do so must:

·         Sit for the Portage Public Schools second-semester exams in those subjects.

·         Reimburse the school for the school's portion of the IB fees paid to the IBO on the candidate's behalf.

Students are expected to be in attendance in all classes through the end of the school year. They are not excused from school attendance following the dates of their IB examinations.

Current juniors who intend to complete the IB Diploma in their senior year (May 2011) may take up to two of their SL (Standard Level, one-year) examinations this year. We advise candidates to sit for an SL exam at the end of the year in which they complete the course.  If they wait until the next year to sit for the exam, they will likely forget much of the course content on which the examination will be based.

Completed IB exam registration forms, which are available from IB teachers and in the IB office throughout the month of October, should be submitted with the check for fees to the IB diploma program coordinator, Mrs. Trepanier, in office 3F (adjacent to room 310).  Again, the final deadline for IB exam registration for the May 2010 session is November 6, 2009.

Special Needs Students and IB Exams

The International Baccalaureate believes that “all candidates should be allowed to demonstrate their ability under assessment conditions which are as fair as possible”.  [Candidates with Special Circumstances, IBO, 2002]  That may necessitate special arrangements for candidates affected by a long-term physical, mental, or learning disability, and the IB will work through Diploma Program coordinators to ensure that these candidates do not face adverse testing circumstances.  The key for students and parents, however, is to know that the IB requires written applications for special accommodations, along with supporting medical documents, to be submitted to the coordinator no later than eighteen months before the exam session.  This means that a current junior intending to sit for IB exams in May 2011 as a senior must apply to the IB coordinator this autumn in order to receive authorization from the IB for special accommodations in May 2011.  Please contact Mrs. Trepanier at 323-5474 or by email [Ltrepanier@portageps.org] for further information.

AP Exam Registration

AP exam registration will occur in February 2010 and will be publicized in the Husky Tracks and on the NHS web page at that time.

IB Class of 2009

Diplomas and certificates for candidates in the May 2009 IB exam session are available for pick-up in the IB office at Northern.

IB Class of 2010

For the May 2010 session, the following 26 students will pursue the IB Diploma in addition to their Portage Public Schools diploma: Claire Abee, Lizz Cardwell, Peter Chutcharavan, Monica Dubray, Hannah Dueweke, Steven Flack, Anne Fletcher, Michael Giguere, Alex Gray, Michael Kelly, Dominique Kudzia, Emma Lozon, Lili Marchak, Brianna Maroukis, Brianna Melgar, Ashley Mitchell, Emily Piper, Gabby Smith, Connor Sorensen, Adrian Warga-Kane, Linnea Whistler, Sydney Williams, and Dayon Woodford.
