The 9th grade Social Studies MEAP will be given to all freshmen in school this fall. More info will follow in Social Studies classes and on announcements. This test is required by the State for all current freshmen.

10th grade:
The ACT Plan is a practice test for the ACT. All current sophomores are required to take the ACT Plan here at Portage Northern on Nov. 4th and 5th. Portage Public Schools takes care of the cost of this test for all sophomores; therefore, the test is free to each student. The ACT Plan provides thorough, beneficial feedback for each student. This test will help each student prepare for the ACT, which he/she will take their junior year.

11th grade:
The PSAT will be offered as an optional test here at Portage Northern on Saturday, October 19, 2009 at 9:00 am. Test registration will take place in the counseling office starting Sept. 14 and will end on Sept. 18. The test is $15.00. Please pay in cash or check (payable to PNHS). The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT. This test is typically for juniors. The PSAT is the only test that serves as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Typically, about 18,000 students will qualify as “Semi-Finalists”. Of that 18,000, half will continue to become Finalists. National Merit Finalists can earn several thousand dollars in private and public scholarships.

MME testing will occur on March 9, 10 and 11 of 2010. All juniors are required to take this 3 day test. Day 1 of the MME is the actual ACT. Therefore, each junior student will receive one free ACT test. Day 2 is the Michigan WorkKeys assessment and Day 3 are the Michigan components (math, science and social studies). The MME is free to all juniors.
