Portage Northern Parents (PNP)
November 12, 2008
President—Brenda Marsh
The meeting was called to order at 11:30 a.m. School Directories are available for sale in the office, PNP meetings and at conferences. PNP will have a membership table at conferences (Nov. 24 and 25) and PNP will be providing bottled water to the staff during conferences.
Principal—Jim French
Students can no longer help staff the offices during seminar class periods. Conferences will be held in the Dog House due to construction. Construction will begin in the commons areas after Christmas break. Inconveniences from construction will increase during this time. The 400 wing has been vacated while it becomes the new and improved science wing. The three story block of classrooms will be renovated over the summer. A task force is being assembled to consider renovations to McCamley Field.
Counseling—Amy DiMaggio
All seniors have been given information concerning financial aid for college. All sophomores are now required to take the PACT test—practice ACT. Seniors should all have their college applications into the counseling office before Thanksgiving for processing.
Secretary—Connie Livingston
The minutes from the October meeting were accepted.
Treasurer—Tish Boerigter
Membership donations have exceeded budget. But do not stop now! A grant to help fund the Memory Project was approved for $225.50. The grant funds a program where IB art students paint portraits of orphans from photos and the orphans receive their portraits. This program has been very successful at Northern before.

Sign up sheets for food donations were circulated.
Holiday Dance December 13—Marsha Celluci
Volunteers are needed to decorate all day on December 12. Large stuffed Husky Dogs are also needed. The dogs will be returned.
Grad Bash May 28—Kathy Mizikar, Mary Collins
Grad Bash meetings are the 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm in the Media Center .
Huskie Tracks—Deb Droppers
The deadline for Huskie Tracks is the 10th of the month.
District Committee Reports:
Curriculum Committee—Tish Boerigter
Site Based Team—Monica Harris and Kelly Schultz
A quality assurance review is being conducted at Northern as part of the accreditation process. A team of 10-15 parents is being assembled as a focus group for the accreditation team to question. The parent volunteers must fairly represent the parent body of PNHS. Volunteers can contact Monica Harris at 353-4249. The group will need to be available on December 8th at 3:00pm.
District Advisory Council—Deb Droppers
Recommendations on redistricting will be given to the school board in November 24 with a vote on December 15.
New Business and Other Items:
Wendy Mazer has resigned from the Board of Education. Her open position (for 1 1/2 years) will be filled by appointment.
Next meeting is December 10.
