AT&T MACUL Student Technology Conference

StudentsPortage Central Middle School had the privilege of being selected to attend the AT& T MACUL Student Technology Conference held at the Lansing State Capitol building on September 26th.  Students in Ms. Amy Franks 7th grade science class used Pod Casting in class as an innovative way to integrate technology into the curriculum.  The students selected to attend were:  Valerie Bedard, Micheal Pattengale, Jonny Finch and Will DeVries.  Peggy Mennett also went along to help with technology support.  While at the Capitol, the students had the opportunity to show off Pod Casting to students, teachers, legislators and even our very own State Representative, Jack Hoogendyk. Mr. Hoogendyk and the students created a Pod Cast on the spot that creation was put onto his website.  The students had an amazing learning experience! You can listen to the Pod Cast on this web site: http://macul.org/page.php?pid=174.

Character Counts Award Program

Character CountsThe seventh grade will begin participating in a Character Counts-Caught Being Good Award program.  Teachers will be watching for students who not just know the pillars, but LIVE the pillars.  When a 7th grade teacher sees a 7th grade student acting in a positive manner that is consistent with Character Counts, they can give them a Caught Being Good card.  These cards will be placed in classroom boxes, to be turned in for a weekly drawing. Prizes will be drawn on Friday during lunch.  We will also be recognizing students at the end of the quarter.  Teachers will not be rewarding students who are “looking” to be rewarded.  You are not going to be calling attention to your good acts in the hopes that you will get a card.  You should be living the pillars naturally.
