Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Portage Central Middle School's web site. It is a great honor to present information about our fine school. We are located at 8305 S. Westnedge, just south of Portage Central High School.
Central Middle School enrolls 715 students from the sixth through the eighth grades. The building serves the educational needs of both regular and special education students who live in the Central attendance area. The teaching staff at CMS consists of 50 dedicated teachers, a principal, assistant principal, integration specialist, media specialist and guidance counselors.
The core curriculum at Central Middle provides learning experiences in the English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, arts education, health, physical education, technology, career and employability skills, life management education, and world languages. The K-12 curriculum and instructional programs for the Portage Public Schools are developed on a district-wide basis by K-12 Curriculum Development Teams and are implemented and sequenced within the building to insure both the horizontal vertical cross-district alignment of curriculum and instruction.
Central Middle School offers a wide range of programs and activities to meet the needs and interest of middle school age children by a professional staff of highly trained instructors. Our building's mission statement: "Central Middle School will develop healthy, successful, positive people" underscores our commitment to the educational needs, as well as, the affective aspects of a young person's development!
We always look forward to the opportunity to share information about Central Middle School and welcome any further inquiry about the "COLTS."
Sincerely yours,
David Babcock
