Thank you to everyone who helped make Friday’s party a success! Thank you to Mrs. Yonker for getting all the candy, and to all the teachers who reffed, dangled doughnuts, shot turkeys, or watched you guys boogie down. Be sure to tell your parents or relatives who helped chaperone that we really appreciate them!
Wednesday and Thursday evening the Schwan’s trucks will be out in front of the building during conferences. Be sure to have your parents stop by after they hear all the wonderful things about you from your teachers to purchase you a special treat, ice cream, etc. or pick up a pie for the upcoming holidays. Any preorders must be in by tomorrow, bring them to the front office or email them to Mr. Molitor.
Mr. Molitor would like some student leaders to stay after school today to help count and organize all the cans and non-perishable food items we collected for the Portage Community Outreach Center this holiday season. There was a wonderful response to this food drive and we applaud your efforts and participation. Please let me know leaders, any who can stay after today.
As you may have noticed, PCMS has new recycling containers in various locations throughout our school. We are the first school in Portage to be involved in this new recycling program. In order for it to be successful, we need everyone to recycle their plastic bottles and cans in the green bins. Please make sure you put ONLY bottles and cans in the bins, NOT garbage!!! There is a recycling bin in the cafeteria as well so please make sure to recycle ALL plastic bottles and cans used at lunch.
In addition to this new program, Mrs. Yonker is starting an after school environmental club. One of the main duties of this club will be to assist with this new recycling program. There will be many other activities as well. The first meeting will be the week after Thanksgiving. If you are interested in joining the environmental club, stop by room 18 and talk to Mrs. Yonker.
Mrs. Yonker reminds everyone to BE GREEN… and do your part and recycle your bottles and cans!!

Reminder from Mrs. Sims to eighth grade
Today is Parent/Teacher Conferences from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Today the Schwan’s man has loaded two trucks with all of their top selling items that your parents can come by and purchase during conferences. Remind them to pick up some tantalizing tidbits for dinner, snacks, treats, or whatever. Remind them that a portion of the sales goes to CMS at the end of the event. See you today and Thursday!
No 7th grade basketball practice today. Thursday practice will be A team only. Friday will be B team only. See your coaches if you have any questions.

Today, November 11, is the day each year the United States of America honors current and former men and women who served in the military. All of us can identify a family member or friend who served in all parts of the world protecting this country’s democratic values. If you have the opportunity today, tell a United States veteran thank your for his/her service to our country.
Also, please note that every November 11, a brand new American flag is placed to fly on the flag pole in front of our building.
8th grade book group trip to Barnes and Noble is right after school today. Get your things and meet in the library by 2:55
We would like to congratulate the 22 7th and 8th grade band students who were accepted and participated in the Michigan School Band & Orchestra District XI Honors Band yesterday at Vicksburg H.S. Each of these students made a CD recording and submitted it. Out of 300+ applicants, 22 CMS students were accepted to participate yesterday. We are very proud to have all of you representing CMS!
As you know this Friday is the school party. Remind students that they can bring in nonperishable food items for ticket discounts. Admission is $2.00, with one food item it is $1.00, with three they get in for free.
We are again going to hold a Schwan’s Truckload Sale Event the two nights of conferences. Two trucks will be parked in our front parking lot from 5:30-8:30 on the evenings of Nov 18 & 19. A percentage of all items purchased from the trucks on these nights will be given back to our school. I believe we made $500-600 last year. Letters and catalogs will be delivered to homerooms by Wednesday. Preorders from the catalogs should be given to Mr. Molitor. Parents can email, fax, or handwrite to me any items that they would like on the trucks for this event. By visiting the Schwan’s website, parents can see the full array of products, BUT THEY MUST NOT ORDER FROM THE WEBSITE! They should write down the product number and then get that to Mr. Molitor if they wish to preorder the item. If they order from the website the school DOES NOT get any percentage from that item and will not be on the truck either night. Hopefully we help families with their Holiday Feast shopping and earn some money for our school in the process.

Today is our first after school party of the school year. Tickets are on sale at the colt corral in the main hallway next to B-wing and Mrs. Sinclair’s room. Tickets are $2 unless you bring in some non-perishable food items. Bring in 1 and your ticket is half price. Bring in 3 and your ticket is free. There will be many fun activities to participate in like: Turkey shoot, movies, dodge ball, volleyball, scavenger hunt, dancing, crafts, and more! The dodge ball and volleyball tournament brackets will be posted today during 1st hour on the gym doors across from the counseling office. Do you like being dressed in the latest fall fashions? Well another activity that teams can participate in is… Dress your friend like a fall tree. That’s right turn your friends into the most fabulous fall tree you’ve ever seen, complete with leaves, branches, birdhouses, fruit, squirrels, and more! What a photo op! It’s going to be a GREAT party!
Just a reminder about discipline procedures on the days of an after school party… We want to encourage all students to engage in their best behavior on special days. So in thinking along those lines, students who are suspended on the day of an after school party will not be allowed to attend. Additionally, students who are sent to the office on the day of the party with a disciplinary referral for classroom or hallway disruption will not be allowed to attend the party. Lets all maintain a positive attitude so that the festivities can be enjoyed by everyone.
