Athletics
Welcome to the North Middle School Athletics, home of the Jr. Huskies! North is a member of the Kalamazoo-Portage-Mattawan League. This league offers competition in Cross Country, Football, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Girls Volleyball, and Track and Field. Through interscholastic competition, students are expected to learn and demonstrate appropriate behavior and sportsmanship while maintaining a good academic standing. Rules and expectations for our student athletes can be found in the Middle School Athletic Handbook.

Seventh Grade Girls Volleyball Team
The seventh grade volleyball team had a very successful and fun season. The girls worked together as a team and improved their volleyball skills. The twenty girls competed on two teams against schools from Kalamazoo, Portage, and Mattawan.
The “B” team showed great progress during the season. They had many close matches and put a scare in many teams. Many of these girls had never played organized volleyball before but their level of commitment and skill improved through out the season.
The “A” team was a power to fear. After a slow start this team came back and beat all of their opponents. They shocked both Mattawan and Portage West beating them both easily after losing to them early in the season. The girls showed team work, skill and enthusiasm for volleyball during the season.
The teams were coached by Don Kitchin, sixth grade Social Studies teacher, and he said“ The girls were a joy to coach. They made my job easy and fun. I wish them luck with their volleyball futures. Way to go North!”
