Welcome to the North Middle School Athletics, home of the Jr. Huskies! North is a member of the Kalamazoo-Portage-Mattawan League. This league offers competition in Cross Country, Football, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Girls Volleyball, and Track and Field. Through interscholastic competition, students are expected to learn and demonstrate appropriate behavior and sportsmanship while maintaining a good academic standing. Rules and expectations for our student athletes can be found in the Middle School Athletic Handbook.

All students must have a current physical on file in the office before they can participate in athletics. The physical must be dated on or after April 15, 2009. The following sports require a physical: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Wrestling, Swimming, Diving and Track. The 2009/2010 physical form can be found on the NMS athletic website.

Since some fall practices begin prior to the first day of school, students may bring their 2009/2010 physical form to their coach on the first day of practice.

2009-2010 Athletic Event Admission

Admission to North Middle School Wrestling, Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming and Diving events will be $3.00 for Adults and $1.00 for Middle and High School students. There is no charge for students in elementary school. The admission fee for events held at Kalamazoo Public Schools will be $3.00 for Adults and $1.00 for all students.

All students must have a completed Physical Form (2009-2010) on file in the NMS office to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular sports. A new form is needed every school year and may be completed after April 15 for the following school year.

Long Jump-Combined Open Pit 4:00 pm-5:30 pm (90 minutes)

*Middle school runners are permitted one false start

Teams may enter 4 long jumpers and shot putters, 3 high jumpers in dual meets.

Shot put-4 throws per participant 2/2 each turn

Long Jump-Open pit boys and girls for 90 minutes-3 jumps per person

High Jump-Starting height-3’6” Girls 4’6” Boys, first 2 raises 3”, all others 2”

3 long jumpers and shot putters, 2 high jumpers in double duals.

Try outs begin Tuesday September 1 from 3:30-5:00pm. Girls should meet in the NMS Gym wearing gym shoes, knee pads, shorts and a t-shirt (knee pads are not required to try out for the team).
