Dr. A. Celeste Shelton-Harris
Principal

Dr. A. Celeste Shelton-Harris is a Portage Public School veteran of twenty one years. After serving ten years in the classroom as a Language Arts/Plus instructor, Shelton-Harris began her journey in school administration. Two years as an assistant principal in Mustang Country ( Portage Central High School) and six years as the assistant principal at North Middle School laid the groundwork for her current position as the building principal. Prior career experiences include personnel and human resources; television production and reporting, broadcasting; and teaching (University of Arkansas, University of Kentucky, Davenport College, and Kalamazoo Valley Community College).

Dr. Shelton-Harris is from Lexington, Kentucky and holds degrees and certifications from Western Kentucky University, the University of Kentucky, and an earned doctorate degree in educational leadership from Western Michigan University. Dr. Shelton-Harris has a passion for young people and is committed to their success. One of her favorite quotes is Recognize achievement everyday and reward responsibility every hour.

Kim Kirshman
Assistant Principal

Kim Kirshman is the newest administrator to the Jr. Huskie family. Kim is not new to the District.  She served for two years as one of the Portage Northern High School Assistant Principals. Prior to her service here in Portage, she served as an Assistant Principal at Grand Ledge High School for three years, and at Mount Clemens High School for two years.

Prior to her administrative experience, Kim taught for 8 years in the area of Family and Consumer Science, Health, and Student Government/Leadership at William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She had the opportunity to open a new school and provide leadership for both her department and the Student Government Association, charged with creating the culture and climate, traditions and expectations of William T. Dwyer High School.

In her spare time, Kim spends her time with her three-year old daughter. She also enjoys technology, travel, and Law and Order and CSI: Miami reruns.
