• Attention Girls' Basketball Team parents. The games scheduled for Thursday Feb. 2nd have now been changed to the following: 7th grade A and B is now Home at 3:30 and the 8th grade A team only will be traveling to Hillside. Mr. Helsom will work on trying to replace the lost 8th grade B game for the girls. The change happened because Hillside has only an A team to participate with.

• Wrestling Parent Meeting Tuesday, January 17th 5:15-6:00 in the Media Center.

• Wrestling starts Monday, January 9th right after school from 3:00-5:00. You need an athletic physical to participate. Questions? Email Mr. Helsom at ghelsom@portageps.org

• Girl's basketball tryouts will be Monday, January 9th through Wednesday, January 11th from 3:00-5:00. You must have an athletic physical turned in to the main office in order to try out. Parents, sign up sheets are in the office on the counter, so please make sure your student signs up before winter break starts. Questions? Email Mr. Helsom at ghelsom@portageps.org

• Parents, mark your calendars in April. Tuesday, April 10th swimming starts. Students need no past experience in order to be on the team. However, students do need an athletic physical on file in order to participate. Please check out the schedule for meet dates.

• Your student must have an athletic physical to participate in athletic activities and the physical must be dated on or after April 15th, 2011 in order for the physical to work for the 2011-2012 school year.

All students need to have athletic physicals to participate in athletics here at West Middle School.  Tennis Club and Golf Club are the only two that do not require a physical.  Sports that do need physicals are:

• Football

• Basketball

• Volleyball

• Cross Country

• Wrestling

• Swimming & Diving

• Track

Sports Admission Prices

Admission prices for West Middle School Wrestling, Volleyball, Boys' and Girls' Basketball are $3.00 for Adults and $1.00 for Middle and High School Kids. Admission is free to kids in elementary school and younger. 

Admission to West Football, Track, and Cross Country is free to everyone.

Swimming and Diving is $3.00 for Adults and $1.00 for students.

Please note that All Kalamazoo Sporting events are $3.00 for Adults and $1.00 for all kids 5 and older.
