West Middle School is located in Portage, Michigan and serves about 710 students in grades six, seven and eight. West also serves as the Hearing Impaired middle school for Kalamazoo county.

Student Leaders encourage you to make a difference!
Raffle - Donations will be taken before school in the front lobby on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15 to raise awareness of the problem of child abuse and neglect and to raise money to support programs at The Community Healing Centers. For each $1 donation on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, students will be given a raffle ticket as a token of our appreciation for their support to this worthy cause. A winner for a $50 Target Gift Card will be drawn from all of the raffle tickets on Friday, May 16th.
Student Leaders encourage all to participate and make a difference in our community. All donations will be accepted. Cash or checks made payable to West Middle School.
The May Newsletter is available by clicking here. It contains information on year end activities and information for the start of next year. Since school doesn't begin until September, there will be no August newsletter this year. Watch for the September newsletter in August. Road Construction The City of Portage has announcedthat reconstruction of Moorsbridge Road will begin in late April and continue into June. In addition, Romence Road will be rebuilt this summer. This activity has led to changes in bus routes and pickup and drop off times. Bus riders have been given a letter by their drivers; if you didn't receive one, you can read it here. Please encourage your children to be alert and careful on their trips to and from school.
In addition, road work continues on the I-94 corridor from 9th Street to South Westnedge Avenue with various closings of ramps. Check the MDOT website for up to date information if you are traveling to West from other schools.
Help Student Leaders Get Cash For Your Trash! Student Leaders would like you to keep your eye out for the following recyclable items….. Empty inkjet cartridges, empty laser cartridges, used cell phones, palm pilots and laptops. West Middle School can earn cash for the used items you bring in. Just bring in your recyclables for donation to the media center or front office. This collection will be ongoing - we will collect items all year round. Help us get cash for your trash!
