Where To Go When You Need To Know!

The media center is the place to go to find the information you need for your research assignments.  With over 12,000 books and access to many online databases the media center staff can help you track down any information you need! 

Some of our resources are available for you to use at home.  For the passwords you need to access some of these resources see Mr. Stohrer or Mrs. Tulgetske.

Encyclopedias

World Book, and the Grolier encyclopedias are available for your use, but you need the passwords. See Mr. Stohrer or Mrs. Tulgetske for the information.

Magazines and Newspapers

InfoTrac, Student Resource Center, SIRS and Electric Library are available for you to use at home but you need to get the passwords first.  See Mr. Stohrer or Mrs. Tulgetske.

Almanacs

Information Please Almanac is available for you to use as well as the CIA World Factbook. Both of these are available without passwords. CultureGrams is a database about countries and states. It includes information about the government, geography and the culture. You will need the password from school to use this resource.

Multiple Resource Databases

Electric Library, First Search and the Student Resource Center are available for you to use at home but you need to see Mr. Stohrer or Mrs. Tulgetske for the passwords first. Each of these resources will contain information taken from reference books and periodicals.

Other Online Reference Sources

NetTrekker is a directory of web sites that been selected by educators to assist students in the types of research you need to do for school. You'll need the password from school to use it.

The Portage District Library has many sources for you to use--follow the links to Article Search. Check the listings at Exploring The Web for more sites, too. The Library of Michigan provides listings at the Michigan Electronic Library. They also provide access to a number of databases but you will need your parent's permission and driver's license number to log in. Click here to log in.
