Science Olympiad Club meets on Tuesday – Thursday from
3:00 – 4:30 each week. Club members explore a wide variety of topics
in the areas of biology, Earth science, physics, chemistry, and technology.
To prepare for regional competition, students are required to do additional
research outside of scheduled practice times. Some of the physics and
technology topics require the building or constructing of something to be
tested. All topics will require students to work in cooperative
teams of two to four to accomplish their tasks.
The division B regional will be held at Western Michigan University on
Saturday, March 20. We also plan to take part in at least one
invitational tournament in January or February. Students will be selected
from the club membership to compete at the regional Science Olympiad
competition. Students will earn their place on the West Middle School
Science Olympiad Team based on their attendance and performance at practice
events and invitational meets. Science Olympiad rules limit the number of
students on the school’s official team to 15 plus 1 alternate. Most
events are limited to a sub-team of two students. All club members may
attend the regional competition to cheer on their team or compete in
individual trial events.
