A teacher at Amberly Elementary is getting new resources to help her students, all thanks to a grant award.
Caitlyn Walsh was awarded $3,000 from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation Award for her classroom at Amberly.
The grant will supply her students with new technology in the classroom to increase their independence, help literacy development and assist with translation for English-language learners.
"The overall goal is to increase student autonomy and help students take ownership of their learning while building confidence and essential skills," Walsh said.
The technology will assist students in learning letter identification, letter-sound recognition, and early phonics skills, as well as give those learning English the ability to translate curriculum texts into their native language, removing barriers to their education.
"I hope that, with the increase in autonomy and confidence, students will develop a stronger sense of inclusion in their classroom where they can use these devices at times during independent work and feel successful alongside their peers."
