It’s an exciting time at PPS!
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, welcome to the 2025-26 school year. This may be one of the most exciting school years in recent memory.
We welcome a new Superintendent, Johnny Edwards; we are opening two brand new elementary schools, Central elementary and Haverhill; and we have officially started construction on Woodland Elementary, which began with the demolition of the old building.
The former Haverhill elementary will serve as home to Woodland students and staff during the next two years until their new school is ready.
We hope you will come to the community grand openings for these schools so you can see what our vision is for all of the oldest PPS elementary schools. There is so much to celebrate. In the coming months you also will learn more about our efforts to “Finish the Job” and how you can help.
There is a lot happening at PPS this year. Please follow the District’s social media, website, and Board meetings that are streamed on our YouTube channel, so you don’t miss a thing.
The PPS Board of Education approved a new bond request for $132.4 million to complete the two-decade effort to replace the oldest elementary schools, equipment, and technology.
The bond request will be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot and will not increase taxes for Portage residents as older bonds expire and are removed from the millage rate. Learn more at portageps.org/2025bond.
