Two Portage Public Schools students were recently named Students of the Month at the Kalamazoo RESA Career Connect Campus.
Kamden "Kam" Kibby, a junior from Portage Northern High School, was selected for his hard work in the Plumbing program.
His teacher, Mr. Randolph, said Kam is a "true team player" in the class.
"He shows up every day ready to jump in and keep projects moving forward, which really helps the group stay on track," Randolph said in a quote shared by KRESA. "He works well with his classmates and consistently collaborates toward shared goals, making sure everyone is contributing and learning together.
"Kam might be on the quiet side, but you can tell he’s tuned in—when he speaks up, his ideas are always on point and help solve whatever challenge the team is facing. His steady work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude make him a great teammate and a well‑deserving Student of the Month.”
Theodore Giambrone, a senior from Portage Central High School, was awarded Student of the Month, by his HVAC-R teacher.
"I am nominating Theodore for HVAC/R student of the month because he has a high level of enthusiasm for HVAC/R," Mr. Sleeman said. "His attendance is fantastic, he makes a point to talk with me and other students every day. I know that if I need help with anything, I can count on him to get it done, whether it’s helping another student out, making sure that everyone makes it to the correct classroom if we are moving learning spaces, or helping get tools set up for lab or a demonstration.
"He has committed to taking the next step with a career in the HVAC/R industry by attending Universal Technical Institute after he graduates this year. I still remember the day in class that we did a scavenger hunt with the furnaces we have in our lab and him telling me at the end of class that he wished HVAC/R class was an all-day class for him. We have this building for students like him.”
