Some useful facts about this Friday’s regional finals football game
The gates open at 5 pm, and the kickoff is at 7 pm
Once someone comes into the game, and leaves, they must pay to reenter.
All tickets are $9, and cash and passes cannot be accepted for playoff games.
We would encourage you to purchase tickets ahead of time, to speed up entry. Just hit this link: Football Regional Playoff Game
Then just have your tickets on your screen and ready for colleagues at the gate to check you in.
Please do not click on your tickets; gate colleagues must do this for you in order to enter the game.
The sidelines are restricted to coaches, officials, athletes, and school administration. Only approved photographers with valid credentials may enter with prior approval from the Athletic Department.
Can’t make it to the game? You can stream it live through the MHSAA @ mshaa.com or through the NFHS Network @ nfhsnetwork.com

Breadlift is this Saturday!
Breadlift is this Saturday for PC Students and next week for Portage Northern. Some households North of Centre Street may be visited next week by PN students. Breadlift is a tradition at Portage Central, Portage Northern, Gull Lake, and now Mattawan, and it has continued for 50 years, and we are grateful for our community’s support! Click on this link for a PC-PN video that shares even more!
And, parents and 9th graders…
We have a Link Crew meeting coming up next Tuesday, November 18th, during 2nd hour.
This will be an opportunity to have fun, reconnect with your Link Crew Leaders, and discuss some interesting topics with your Link Leaders and your peers. Be looking for a reminder from your Link Leaders about your group number and location. And, 9th graders, please know that you can always reach out to your Link Leaders with any questions you may have. If they’re not available, please come and find me, Mrs. Smith, in the Activities Office. Thanks!!!
Notes to excuse absences
When you send in a note to excuse a student’s absence, it is really helpful if you write the note yourself and then sign it. When we receive notes that have been written by students and then signed by a parent/guardian, sometimes it is hard to verify the legitimacy of the note, which then means that we have to call you to check it out. You are, of course, always welcome to email our Attendance Officer Jody Thrash at jthrash@portageps.org or call the Attendance Line 24 hours a day at 269-323-5259. Thank you for your help with this!
Too, please make sure to remind your kids to stop in at the Attendance Office first anytime they need to leave early for the day and whenever they are arriving late. Thanks for this too!

Prom date and location
I just wanted to let all families and students know that Prom 2026 will be Saturday, April 25th, from 8:30-11 pm at the Fetzer Center on WMU’s campus. It is for Juniors and Seniors. More information will be forthcoming in the months ahead, but I wanted to be sure that folks had that date and location on their calendars. Thanks!!!
Keeping you in the loop on grades in Skyward
Quarter-one report cards have been posted to all student Skyward accounts. Your student's current report card, along with all previous report cards and transcripts, can be found in Skyward under the "Portfolio" tab. Off campus class grades (like online classes, dual-enrollment classes, KAMSC and CTE/EFE) are not posted on the quarter 1 or quarter 3 report cards and will therefore be left blank. Grades in these classes are only posted on a student's semester 1 and semester 2 transcripts. Please check with the program directly for more information on these class grades.
Back by popular demand for the Holidays…
Buy a brick for McCamley-Knight or Mustang Field, or a tile for the pool! Great Holiday Gifts!
So many families and community members purchased bricks at the new McCamley-Knight and Mustang Fields and tiles at the new pool — to leave their mark in these spaces where so many great kids, parents, families, and community members celebrated and where so many more will celebrate decades into the future. This sale continues until Graduation Day this spring. So if you are considering a brick at the new McCamley-Knight or Mustang Field, click here. If you would like a tile at the new pool, click here.
Thank you — again and again — for all that you have done!
Thank you all for your support of Toby and our kids!
And our thanks also goes out to Arbor Financial Credit Union!
One of my favorite authors would complain, Everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance. And I get it: we have been a community of builders and farmers for our 100-year history. And over the years we have been blessed to build so much – and some of that maintenance of those community investments can only happen with the help of our local business partners. They help us accomplish tasks as varied as replacing our 19-year-old golf cart that shuttled community members to athletic events for years, to making sure that we could purchase a new counseling dog, Toby, to support our kids when they have difficult days.
One of our local business partners has been Arbor Financial for a lot of years, and we are so grateful! This summer we already started working on raising funds for our next counseling dog. Our goal: to raise $10,000 -$12,000 to pay for the next counseling dog, long after I am gone. If you would like to help, you can hit this link anytime, and we would be so, so grateful – as will our kids years into the future.
Looking forward to time with family at Thanksgiving,
Eric Alburtus
