📚 First graders at Haverhill Elementary were visited Tuesday by Portage City Councilmember Jihan Ain Young for a special reading of 'How I Met My Monster.' 📚


We are celebrating creativity and talent this week at the Portage Northern IB student art show! 🎨✨ A variety of art mediums were on display including acrylic and needle felt to embroidery and ripped paper. Great job, Huskies!










Gumper the rabbit was born with shorter ears than all of his friends … but he's a courageous bunny that saves the day and shows that everyone can be brave!
Gumper made a special visit to Central Elementary School Monday to visit with students and tell his story. Thanks to author and illustrator Cherie Okonski for bringing your amazing story to our students at CEL for Reading Month.










🥳🤩 The Class of 2038 is in the building! 🥳🤩 Kindergarten Registration Night at Portage Public Schools was a chance for future kindergarten and young 5s students to enroll in school, meet their principal, collect spirit swag and more!

"Schools to Tools" offered students an interactive and immersive glimpse into the world of skilled trades this week.
Students from Northern, North Middle and Community High got to try their hand at different carpentry skills, virtual welding and more at the mobile experience, hosted by the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters.
Thanks to PNHS teacher Mr. Wykrent for bringing such a great experience to our students!









As summer quickly approaches, the PPS Food Service Department wants to remind families about Sun Bucks -- Michigan's Summer EBT program.
Families with school-aged children who would qualify for free meals at school are eligible for grocery assistance during the summer months. The deadline to apply for May benefits is April 15. Visit michigan.gov/mdhhs/assistance-programs/food/summer-ebt to learn more.

Our PPS Engagement Specialists are so very special they deserve their very own day of recognition! We have designated March 20 as the official ES Appreciation Day here at PPS. ❤️
The Engagement Specialists in each of our eight elementary schools serve as the school MTSS coordinator for Social Emotional Learning and school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
The team coordinates, plans, and implements support programs and services within the District and the community to ensure the academic and social/emotional success of our students. THANK YOU to our PPS ES's for your amazing commitment to our students! ❤️

The Heart of Education Award winners for the month of February were Mae Orr from 12th St. Elementary and Rachel Lam from Moorsbridge Elementary.

Another day of career exploration took place at Portage Central High School this week. At this event, students learned about careers that require a bachelor's degree such as engineering, geology, social work and more! Great job, Mustangs!

What’s it like living on a real-world budget? Students at Portage Community High School learned this week!
Kalamazoo RESA led students through a simulation on budgeting within their chosen career. This was an eye-opening and fun way to help guide students in navigating life choices within their career budget.
