Physical education is important for all of our students -- from playtime in kindergarten to heavy weightlifting and advanced sports for high school athletes. Students learn fundamental motor skills and character values and also enjoy time socializing and team building with peers.

Today is a special day for our Food Service Workers! They are Lunch Heroes every day, but today we are celebrating our amazing food service staff who serve about 25,000 meals every week!







KRESA stopped at Portage Community High School yesterday on their Reality Fair tour! Dozens of Juniors and Seniors got a taste of adulting by picking a career and salary and making lifestyle choices. At the end, they figured out if they are living within their means.

The PPS Board of Education will meet Monday, May 6, for a committee of the whole work session at 6:30 p.m. at the Portage Central High. The meeting will include a closed session to discuss collective bargaining strategy, as allowed under the Open Meetings Act.

Congratulations to Prakash Shekhar from Portage Central for being selected as one of only 13 Michigan students selected as semifinalists for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program!
Prakash was selected by the U.S. Department of Education for the prestigious program, which recognizes some of the most distinguished and accomplished graduating high school seniors in the country.
“Michigan’s U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalists can take great pride in their accomplishments,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. “I’m proud of these young people. They are representative of the great work that our state’s students are doing with support from their families and outstanding educators. I wish them luck as the U.S. Department of Education chooses this year’s scholars.”

The time is nearly here to register for PPS Summer Camps! Here are a few key things you should know:
- Registration will open at 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 1.
- You will register through GoFan. You can view the Camp Catalog and find the registration link at www.portageps.org/summercamps.
- Your child will attend camps based on the grade they will be in the 24-25 school year.
- Each PPS student is allowed to register for ONE (1) PEF STEP camp only to make room for everyone. The PEF camps have limited space and will fill quickly. Students can register for multiple sports camps.
We look forward to another great summer of learning and fun!

The Portage District Library hosted a field trip for young fives students across the District today. Students learned about the lifecycle of frogs, farm animals, how worms help in a garden and more!

Huskies celebrated their Unified Club Tuesday with a friendly game of kickball between students, staff and officers from the Portage Department of Public Safety.
The club is aimed at promoting social connections through sports and joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.










The talent of forensics students was on display at Portage Central High this week. Students who are part of the competitive speech team performed for classmates ahead of Forensics Friends and Family Night next week.

The Career Fair at Portage Northern High gave students the chance to speak to industry professionals and learn more about potential careers including engineering, health, plumbing, tattooing, military, policing and many more.










It was an exciting day at Portage North Middle School! Chef Jet Tila came to the school to demo a stir fry dish, sign autographs and discuss his career as a professional chef and Food Network star.
