Attention Families who are dropping off/picking up students at PNHS: Please DO NOT drop off/pick up students on the north end of the school (Door 32-Lower Commons). The Drop Off area for PNHS is outside Door 1 across from the Natatorium (south side of the school). This is a safety issue as we have students walking to/from the Student Parking Lot at the same time as folks are rushing through the lot. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. #packstrong

A partial calendar for the 2025-26 school year was approved by the Board of Education Monday, July 21.
A complete 2025-26 school year calendar is not yet available due to ongoing contract negotiations with the Portage Education Association. The partial calendar covers August and September, and the District will also follow the Kalamazoo RESA Common Calendar for major school holiday breaks.
A monthly District calendar will be established and affirmed by the Board until a complete school year calendar is approved between the Board and the PEA. You can view the School Year Calendar at portageps.org/o/pps/page/school-year-calendar.

Chris Riker served as a teacher for 5 years in PPS and then the last 20 years as the athletic director as well as 6 years of teaching prior to Portage Northern. He bids our Huskie community farewell effective June 30, 2025. Mr. Riker's proudest accomplishment has been the creation and implementation of the PACKstrong school wide culture. Being able to develop the concept and ideas within the athletic department with student leaders and then having it adopted as the schoolwide culture is something he will always treasure. "I leave everyone of you with the charge of continuing to embrace and uphold the core principles of PACKstrong. For me, PACKstrong was never just about athletics, but also encompassed our students in their academic life and their lives in our community. Those core principles can serve anyone well in all facets of their life." Thank you for your time, efforts and dedication Mr. Riker. #huskieforlife #packstrong

Honoring our legends! Join us for the conclusion of our virtual parade as we celebrate the incredible careers of our retiring staff. Bob Seufert has been with PNHS "forever." He is excited to do a lot of traveling and spend time with his grandson. Kip Waltke came to PNHS from PNMS in 2010. His retirement plans include, relaxing and spending time with family, sleeping in and not getting up until 8am, travel (currently already booked cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska), making regular trips to watch the Tigers and Lions play as well as continuing to coach LAX and work at Wings Stadium. GO HUSKIES! Thank you for the years of dedication and heart! #huskieforlife #packstrong

Mrs. Anthony will be leaving Portage Northern at the end of this school year to teach full time at Western Michigan University in the Family & Consumer Science Department & the Workforce Education Department (aka Career & Technical Education). She will be teaching future educators or educators who are working towards a higher degree &/or certain certifications they need, along with a few FCS courses that various majors must take.
Mrs. Anthony has been teaching for 14 years and 12 of them have been at Portage Northern High School! She says she will miss SO much about Portage Northern, but here are few things summarized -
"First, my teacher besties, who have been an amazing support system! I've shared so many laughs, vent sessions and heartfelt conversations over the years with them. Without these teachers by my side (who understand the intense challenges along with triumphs of the job, and valued me as an educator and person), I'm not sure I would have gotten through each week!"
"Second, I will miss the entire PN community! I will forever cheer on the Huskies! PNHS is an incredible school that provides so many opportunities for students, and I am grateful I got to be a part of it for so long. The relationships and connections I made over the years have made such an impact on my life. #PACKSTRONG"
"Lastly, it may seem silly, but I will miss the program I have built and have dedicated my life to. I have considered my classroom and classes as my "3rd baby". I've spent countless hours outside of the school day buying groceries and equipment, cleaning, organizing and setting up the lab space, building the curriculum practically from scratch, and creating engaging lessons. The job allowed me to share my passion with so many students while also teaching them very necessary life skills!" Good Luck Mrs. Anthony! Don't be a stranger! #huskieforlife
