The Fall sports season officially begins TODAY! Cross country and football practice begins at 3pm. Volleyball tryouts are today, tomorrow, and Wednesday from 3 – 4:30pm.
Note: You can not participate in practice or tryouts if you do not have all forms completed and a current physical on FinalForms.

Open House is this Tuesday from 6 - 7:30pm. This is every student's opportunity to receive a paper copy of your schedule, find your classrooms, meet staff, decorate your locker, and more!
We will have a few food trucks/vendors on site, so come with an appetite. This is a community event! Everyone is welcome!
Our PTSO is also hosting a Silent Auction during the Open House as a fundraiser. We currently have 26 packages that will be auctioned and still growing!
We look forward to seeing our Pioneer community as we welcome our scholars back and prepare for the first day of school.

The 2025–2026 school year is almost here, and we are excited to welcome our Pioneers back! Before the first day, we invite you to our Open House on Tuesday, August 19, from 6:00–7:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, locate your classrooms, decorate your locker, and more!
Schedules
Tentative schedules will be available on Skyward starting Monday, August 18.
Physical copies will be available at the Open House on the 19th.
All scheduling questions will be addressed through a process our counselors will share after schedules are released. Please do not email counselors about schedule changes before this process is communicated. Thank you for your understanding!
We can’t wait to see all of our students and families on the 19th as we kick off another fantastic year.

It's hard to believe August is right around the corner, which means a new school year will be here before we know it! A few sports related announcements are below and attached:
1) PPS Physical Night is Monday, August 4th at Portage Northern HS 5-7 pm. If your child still needs a physical for the upcoming year, be there! Make sure your forms are complete and uploaded in Final Forms.
2) Cross Country Run Camp is continuing on Mondays and Wednesdays with the regular season beginning the week of August 18th. This is a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade sport.
3) Football practice begins Monday, August 18th from 3 - 5 pm. This is a 7th and 8th grade sport only.

A partial calendar for the 2025-26 school year was approved by the Board of Education Monday, July 21.
A complete 2025-26 school year calendar is not yet available due to ongoing contract negotiations with the Portage Education Association. The partial calendar covers August and September, and the District will also follow the Kalamazoo RESA Common Calendar for major school holiday breaks.
A monthly District calendar will be established and affirmed by the Board until a complete school year calendar is approved between the Board and the PEA. You can view the School Year Calendar at portageps.org/o/pps/page/school-year-calendar.
We are hiring! Join us from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Portage Central High School Centennial Park, 8135 Westnedge Ave. At our On-Site Enrollment Event, HR staff will be in attendance to help you apply for a variety of different positions at PPS!
Yesterday, our middle school summer students had the opportunity to visit the Portage Community High School garden! ClaRion R., a student representative from Community High, shared with the students what he and his schoolmates learned last year while creating the garden, as well as, how it benefits the community to share what they are learning. This work aligns with the project the middle school students are working on this summer with sustainability practices. Thank you ClaRion and CoHS!

The Portage Public Schools Middle School Project Based Learning Summer Experience began last week! Students from Portage Central, North, and West are creating podcasts about topics that are authentic to them and creating a book about sustainability in the state of Michigan!
This Thursday is their Share Fair where they will present their public products! Feel free to stop by and support these rising 7th and 8th graders.
