Greetings Pioneer Families, The 2025–2026 school year is almost here, and we are excited to welcome our Pioneers back! Before the first day, we invite you to our Open House on Tuesday, August 19, from 6:00–7:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, locate your classrooms, decorate your locker, and more! Schedules Tentative schedules will be available on Skyward starting Monday, August 18. Physical copies will be available at the Open House on the 19th. All scheduling questions will be addressed through a process our counselors will share after schedules are released. Please do not email counselors about schedule changes before this process is communicated. Thank you for your understanding! It's hard to believe August is right around the corner, which means a new school year will be here before we know it! A few sports related announcements are below and attached:

1) PPS Physical Night is Monday, August 4th at Portage Northern HS 5-7 pm. If your child still needs a physical for the upcoming year, be there! Make sure your forms are complete and uploaded in Final Forms.

2) Cross Country Run Camp is continuing on Mondays and Wednesdays with the regular season beginning the week of August 18th. This is a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade sport.

3) Football practice begins Monday, August 18th from 3 - 5 pm. This is a 7th and 8th grade sport only.

4) Volleyball tryouts are Monday, August 18th through Wednesday, August 20th from 3 - 4:30 pm. The first practice will be Thursday, August 21st. This is a 7th and 8th grade sport only. Click this link for questions about tryouts or if you are unable to make it. https://tinyurl.com/pwmsvb25

We are hiring! Join us from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Portage Central High School Centennial Park, 8135 Westnedge Ave. At our On-Site Enrollment Event, HR staff will be in attendance to help you apply for a variety of different positions at PPS!

Yesterday, our middle school summer students had the opportunity to visit the Portage Community High School garden! ClaRion R., a student representative from Community High, shared with the students what he and his schoolmates learned last year while creating the garden, as well as, how it benefits the community to share what they are learning. This work aligns with the project the middle school students are working on this summer with sustainability practices. Thank you ClaRion and CoHS!

The Portage Public Schools Middle School Project Based Learning Summer Experience began last week! Students from Portage Central, North, and West are creating podcasts about topics that are authentic to them and creating a book about sustainability in the state of Michigan! This Thursday is their Share Fair where they will present their public products! Thank you to NBA player Quincy Olivari for sending a message of encourage to our boys mentoring group, Bridge Builders, for our last meeting. Quincy was signed by the LA Lakers his rookie season and played as a starter the majority of his season with the South Bay Lakers in the G - League. His message to the Bridge Builders was to "Always make a good first impression," "Understand the Power of 'No'", and "Use Positive Self-Talk/Believe in Yourself." Our 6th grade ELA Literacy class took it's final visit for the year to Friendship Village Monday. In this class, students conduct interviews with residents and create projects that reflect their life story. Monday (and last Friday for Mr. Jay), Pioneers presented their projects to their interviewee. This is 1 of the 4 different Project Based Learning experiences our 6th graders around the district participated in this year. Great job Pioneers! #ProjectBasedLearning #AllIn #TheWestWay
